I don't "do" blank.
My teacher hubby finds this hilarious, so I'll share it with you. He is finally getting a Prometheum board in his classroom. They're installing the monstrosity right in the middle of the wall where I had covered the double chalkboard with theory bulletin boards. The tech guys were coming this week, so we had to take down the cutesy bulletin boards so we could move the useful boards into their spots. Sounds bizarre and aggravating, yes? It was. The prometheum board will be a foot from the wall, so you would still SEE the ugly green chalkboard behind it. First, I thought I'd just cover the ugly chalkboard with some nice black paper. This 10ft black spot was now mocking me with it's blankness. I don't like blankness.
Have marker, will decorate.
I added a sign: "What is missing?" The students all kept reading it and guessing, so I then added the second sign: "Life without Music would be this dull and boring. Viva la musica!" The primarily hispanic class got a kick out of the second sign. Oddly enough, one group is actually studying a chorale piece titled "Viva la musica!" Am I good or what?
The signs will be fun until the big Prometheum takes over the wall. It wouldn't hurt to add some cute Suzie's Zoo border either. I did so the next day when I went up to switch out the bulletin board in the hall. I'm lethal when left alone with tape, a stapler and some colored paper.

Musicals
My kids LOVE High School Musical. A few weeks ago, we were watching a musical and they made the comparison that it was so like HSM with the singing and dancing. This convo inspired my newest bulletin board devoted to musicals from my childhood and decades before that.
I backed the board in black, used brown paper to make the floorboards and red paper to make the curtains.
The yellow boxes read "Before Troy and Gabriella sang and danced their way across the big screen..." and "Musicals...not just for high school."
I found old-style musical posters online to print, then matted them with a bright blue to add some "pop". And nothing is complete without some metallic fuschia and teal musical notes.
On a funny note, my daughter was watching as I hunted musical pics online. When I pulled up the picture for Oklahoma, she got excited and asked "Is that the one with Wolverine in it?" Yes, I was so incredibly proud. If you haven't watched Hugh Jackman playing the lead, you just haven't experienced Oklahoma properly. Although some chops could've certainly enhanced the, uh, view a bit more.

Volunteer Opportunities
Today I decorated a board at my children's school. Oddly enough, it was the volunteer board. One of the teachers joked that I was just trying to get out of some of my volunteer duties. Most of our school is either bilingual or strictly Spanish speaking, so I put up both languages to invite everyone to help. I don't speak Spanish, so had the secretary translate my clouds for me.
The board fell on my head twice, not always a good sign, methinks.

Welcome to our Music Corral ~2009
This year, we are decorating Matt's class with a western theme. Enjoy!
NO HORSING AROUND
A creative way to display the very basic classroom rules.
* Sit up straight and tall.
*Leave each other alone.
*Listen with your ears.
*Mr. Huitt's word is final.
If you don't like it, you can go speak to the Sheriff.
I used a basic rope clipart to make the borders, then colored them with a brown crayon before laminating.

LEARN THE ROPES
The basic music staff, displayed using western emblems

SLOW DOWN AT THE HV CORRAL
I think I'll be adding some small western accents around the words, but this was the basic board I put up today. Each picture is a different tempo, visualized by a Bugs Bunny photo.

RIDING THE RANGES
A basic solfege gone western, lol. I used the Paperdoll Cricut cartridge to cut out conestoga wagons and trails.

MAKING MUSIC TOGETHER
Basic music groupings are displayed in an easy to understand, colorful visual for the kiddos.

DEPUTY DAWG'S DYNAMICS
Drawn on the stars are different dynamic symbols, paired with their definition. Why Deputy Dawg? Why not?

ON THE TRAIL OF GREAT COMPOSERS
In his classroom, one wall is pale tan lockers bracketed by pale tan cabinets. The cabinets are now covered with Bass Hall posters. We printed composer mugshots, one for each locker. Above the lockers, we centered the title, then surrounded it with more musical notes. We added a small musical composers border just above the line of lockers.
I hate blank walls. The very large cabinets were painted pale tan. Ahem. We laminated, then split the poster in two to cover the two cabinet doors. When the cabinets are closed, the students simply see a very lovely picture of Bass Hall located here in Fort Worth. We decorated both cabinets like this.

WRANGLE UP SOME RHYTHMS
Just a cutesy board displaying basic musical rhythms. Does anyone else think my pockets ended up looking like driedels?_________________________________________________________________________________
BACK WALL
I lined the window frame with a pretty border and put up some cutouts to add a bit of color.

MR HUITT'S NOTES
The board behind his desk is always dedicated to all the menagerie of school notes that a teacher is inundated with. I like to jazz it up a bit.
The picture of Droopy Dog says "I'm So Happy". I put the other two jazz musicians on the cabinet behind him.I realize jazz musicians don't really match the western theme for this year, but I like them anyways.

MUSICIAN'S PLEDGE
A repeat from last year. This is a poster which *almost* fills up this board. The border finishes it out nicely.

POLKA PALACE PARTY
Backyardigans song sheets and pics from Nick Jr. I like the bright splash of color.
_________________________________________________________________________________
HAVE YOU "HERD" THESE SONGS?
Various country songs from the textbooks. The cows are clip art found on the internet.
_________________________________________________________________________________
DECLARATION FOR MUSIC & THE ARTS
I added a pretty border and a few sheriff's badges for some color.

TOWN NOTES
As various events pop up through the year, notes can be posted on this board. It is right at the doorway, so the reminders will be highly visible to students and staff alike.

HV HELBING IS A GREAT PLACE TO HANG YOUR HAT
We took pictures of staff wearing silly hats for this board. This is just a silly fun way to welcome students to a new year of school. Staff love it!

DOOR & HALLWAY
Also known as entrance to insanity.
The hallways are so dark, dreary and institution-like. I like to add a bit of bright excitement to our small area. The Art teacher is now located next door, so we're hoping this will soon be the brightest hallway in the building.

Music Theory with Bugs Bunny
I feel children learn better when facts are presented creatively and colorfully. Music theory is very dry for elementary school kids, so I created these to help them understand a bit better using random clipart and my Hallmark scrapbook program.
